| By Rob Conrad Location: Somalia Size : 4 - 5 inches total length Habitat: These animals come from semi dry savannah habitat. These lizards are terrestrial by nature, and thus need a longer verses taller terrarium. A ten -twenty gallon long will suffice for pairs and trio's. Multiple males can be housed together and do not seem to show same sex aggression found in other lizards. These animals seem to demand basking temp's of 80-90f and cooler tempsAre required at the other end of the cage. Cork bark and commercially made caves make the best hiding retreats for these reptiles, Multiple hiding places are mandatory for successful care. Humidity is maintained by misting lightly under their hiding shelters, 3-4 x a week. Always provide clean water. Lighting: We recommend florescent and incandescent lighting for maintaining optimal health. All diurnal lizards receive high intensity Lighting in our care. Always unfiltered. Diet: We have observed x, taylori consuming minimal amounts of Dandelion green's in our care…and offer it to the lizards 3 x a week. These lizards can handle half-inch crickets, and small mealworms. Full sized crickets are not recommended. Each adult eats around 2-3 Crickets a day 4 -5 x a week. Always dust the crickets with a good cricket Calcium with d3 added. Multivitamins are not as important if crickets are gut loaded properly. Xenegama have not been bred in any sizeable numbers to date. To prevent Illness, or if you notice wild xenegama losing weight .A Veterinary visit will be necessary. Good Luck !! |
